On The Road With "Olivia"

Adventures on a Folding Bike

Derailleur Vulnerability?

One  design feature of Olivia that I have been looking at has me thinking. Because of the small 16″ wheels on the bike, the derailleur is much closer to the ground than a full size bike would be. Obviously that makes it more likely that Olivia’s derailleur could hit against objects and cause some damage, despite the guard.

The chain and the derailleur are both very close to the ground

This is the cost of “stowability” for this model. I needed for it to be small enough to fit in a very small spot in my office taking up as little space as possible. Although there are other folding bike designs out there that avoid this, they fail on the affordability criteria.
